Regulatory non-coding RNAs in the pathogenesis and diagnosis of Alzheimer‘s disease

Alzheimer‘s disease is a complex neurodegenerative disorder whose exact pathomechanism remains unclear despite intensive research. Current knowledge points to the roles of non-coding RNAs and their interactions in the multilevel regulation of gene expression that is involved in known pathophysiological pathways leading to progressive neurodegeneration. These findings, which we also discuss in this article, emphasize the importance of studying non-coding RNAs not only for a deeper understanding of disease mechanisms but also for their potential use in diagnostics.
