Treatment of hemangiomas in children
Infantile hemangiomas (IH) represent the most common group of tumors in childhood. Infantile hemangiomas are tumors with. varied morphological features, extent, location, severity a treatment options Proper diagnosis is necessary for the correct indication of treatment for infantile hemangiomas, and the basis for this is differentiation from vascular malformations. Congenital hemangiomas are a group of vascular tumors that are already developed at birth. The management, diagnosis, and treatment of hemangiomas often requires interdisciplinary cooperation between dermatovenerologists, pediatricians, neonatologists, cardiologists, angiologists, oncologists, and radiologists. Slovakia lacks a unified concept for the management of patients with vascular malformations. Most of these patients find their own way from their primary care physician to a specialist clinic, where treatment may be indicated. The treatment options for hemangiomas in Slovakia are similar to standard practice abroad. We treat pediatric patients with infantile hemangioma with conservative treatment (local or systemic) if necessary. Surgical and laser treatment is used mainly to treat complications or residuals at a later age. Treatment is usually ineffective in patients with congenital hemangioma.
