Skin infections – part I: Bacterial infections of skin and soft tissues

Bacterial infections of skin and soft tissues are common in practice of dermatologist as well as primary care physicians and others specialists. Given the wide spectrum of clinical features of bacterial skin infections incidence and prevalence are depending on environmental risk factors, aetiopathological agents, virulence and actual immunological status of affected individual. Many bacteria species can cause these infections, but the most frequently isolated are Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus pyogenes, antibiotic multiresistant species are currently detected and some of infections are serious in course of disease. Early diagnosis in complicate and severe infections, detection of aetiological agent correct evaluation of laboratory diagnostic is necessary as well as collaboration between interdisciplinary specialists. Bacterial infection of skin and soft tissues include extensive problems. Actual view into the aetiopathogenesis, microbiological patterns, classification and approaching of some serious infections should be helpful in practice of dermatologist and in interdisciplinary collaboration, too.
