Alopecia areata and treatment options

Alopecia areata is an autoimmune chronic inflammatory disease characterized by the hair loss. The exact etiology of alopecia areata is not clear. It most commonly affected area is scalp, but it can affect any part of the body. Treatment of alopecia areata is relatively demanding, and none of the available therapeutic modalities guarantees re-growth of hair and sustained remission of the disease. The article provides a brief overview of the options for therapy of alopecia areata.
