Volumetric capnography
Authors in this article discuss basic atributes of volumetric capnography (Vcap), its biophysical principles and monitoring during controlled ventilation. They elucidate basic principles of measurement according to Bohr and Enghoff and its significance. Authors also explain principles of measurement of single lung volumes and their ratios such as VDaw/VT, VDf/VT etc., their importance from pathophysiological and clinical point of view. Potential benefits of monitoring by volumetric capnography and its significance for not only monitoring of gas exchange in lungs, but also circulation disorders are also discussed. Authors showed the importance of Vcap for controlled ventilation settings. To conclude authors state the global importance of Vcap introduction into the clinical practice.
